Intercultural competence and global education allow us to have a better knowledge of ourselves and then, of our own culture. This first step, essential to understand others and their cultural complexities, is key to becoming global citizens. The most successful global education approaches recognize the attitudes, skills and knowledge students need to navigate, contribute to and flourish in the world — and they integrate activities that purposefully resolve opportunity gaps among students on a daily basis.
The Character development refers to qualities of the young students essential for being personally effective in a complex world including: grit, tenacity, perseverance, resilience, reliability, and honesty. Citizenship. ... Collaboration. ... Communication. ... Creativity. ... and Critical Thinking are essential components for global education. Jabriya Indian School recognizes the importance of these notable Global Competencies to be nurtured at school for the greater success of its students.
Regarding what we teach, there has been a paradigm shift in the approach through the New Education Policy. Previously we used to teach fixed curricula at the school level, which could not determine the area of strength of the student at an early level. We thought a dab of learning in every subject was essential to build the foundation of students, but today we realize we need to minimize the foundation and maximize the specialization and area of liking. Earlier, the student and his/her family had to find out the chosen stream, arts, commerce, science and then further specialization through own judgement and partly through the teacher’s judgement. But this was usually after Class 10. Sometimes people choosing Pure Science in class 11 and 12, had to opt for Social Science or Commerce or Arts at the College level. Thus, it was by trial and error that people could find their area of strength, that too often very late. Today students have the option of choosing science or arts or commerce after class 8 and have the option of changing the same in class 9.
At the present times, fast moving technological transformations and their adoption in our school brought several approaches in our educational practices of digital learning.
Digital forms of learning are an essential part of schooling to reshape the foundations of e-learning approaches. This has resulted in “Student learning facilitated by the technology that gives them some elements of control over the time, place, pathways of student empowerment at the learner’s own pace”.
Learning is therefore, is no longer restricted to the school day or school year. One of the greatest benefits of digital education is that it can help to enhance student accountability across the school levels. Hence the new terminology of Hybrid and Flipped learning, which are a mix of face-face and online instruction support , both the types complimenting each other. These are highly useful in problem solving and independent learning, build deeper understanding and can create more engagement in lessons and discussions.
Jabriya Indian School is conscious of its responsibility on these modern initiatives and advances in offering a progressive schooling curriculum for the continued success of its learners.
